In 1962 Peter Max started a small Manhattan arts studio with friend Tom Daly, The Daly & Max Studio. Daly and Max were joined by friend and mentor Don Rubbo, and the three worked as a group on books and advertising. Don Rubbo used to joke that he was the ampersand in The Daly & Max Studio.
In 1963, Daly, Max and Rubbo did the illustration, design and color for Helga Sandburg's (the daughter of poet Carl Sandburg) children's book Joel and the Wild Goose.
Signed by Peter Max - 2003
When Donald and Cheryl Lynne went to Peter Max's book signing at Border's Books in San Jose, 2003, Peter leaped over the table, grabbed Donald in a bear hug and shouted, "Your father taught us all!" He offered to paint a photo of Don Rubbo, and asked for a photo of him. The painting on the top right of Don and Donald Rubbo arrived several years later.
